Danzen-Ryu Jiu Jitsu

A Hawaiian native, Kyoshi Coelho began his martial arts training in Hawaii in 1957. His first instructor was Professor Libert O'Sullivan at Moiliili dojo on the island of Oahu.

Kyoshi moved to the mainland in 1960 and began his training under Professor Sig Kufferath at the Los Altos Aiki Jitsu dojo, in Los Altos California. In 1965, Nikko Jujitsu & Mountain View Aiki Kai was established by Professor Kufferath, Senseis Fermin Urmeneta, Robert Nadeau and Coelho.

Kyoshi holds the rank of rokodan in dan zan ryu and rank in aikido and judo. He is a founding member of Kilohana Martial Arts Association, and past president of Kilohana. In addition, Kyoshi is a representative of dan zan ryu jujitsu with the World Head of Family Sokeship Council. WHFSC is headed by Grandmaster Frank Sanchez, who is a 1960's Nikko dojo mate of Kyoshi. He is also a member of the executive board of the Hawaii Maritial Arts Society, led by Professor Jaime Abregana. Currently, Kyoshi Coelho is an instructor with the Los Angeles police department in their Jeopardy Kids program in West Los Angeles. This program is headed by Sensei Mark Wald and his hui hale mana.
