On Tuesday April 5th 2022 our Beloved Soke Yasutoshi 'Moon' Watanabe passed away.
Soke Watanabe was a Living Legend in the martial arts world and most specifically Judo. He started taking Judo at the age of 11 at the Honolulu YMCA with Sensei Yamamoto. He was a very dedicated and diligent student. So much so, that by the age of 23 he won the Hawaiian Islands Judo Championship.
During his adult life, he was an electronics assembler for the GTE/Lenkurt company in San Carlos. On the side, he operated a deli with his wife Adele, while also finding the time to continue teaching Judo in such places as the Hui Makaala Judo Club in the 1950's.
He's been a highly respected and gifted instructor all is life. Among his students over the years were the son (Ron) of Danzan Ryu's founder, Henry Okazaki and the wife (Bernice) of Small Circle Jiu Jitsu founder, Wally Jay.
In September 2013, at the age of 86, he was bestowed the title of Honorary Soke, by Soke Frank Sanchez of the World Head of Family/Sokeship Council.
Soke Watanabe was also influential to the GSJK/CKK system as the co-creator, when he was 35, of the Mountain/Moon patch which we proudly wear. The M/M patch that Soke Watanabe wears is blue and GSJk/CKK's is black.
Our Thoughts and Prayers go out to all of the friends and family in this time of loss.

Professor Peladeau Passed Away
On Saturday, May 25, 2019, our beloved Professor Wilfred Peladeau passed away. Professor Peladeau started training with Grandmaster Bill Chun, Sr. in the early 1960's and was the very first student to be tested for the rank of black belt in 1964. Professor Peladeau was tested again by GM Chun, Sr. in 1967. In 1999, Sifu Bill Chun, Jr. appointed Professor Peladeau as the Vice President of the Go Shin Jitsu Kenpo/Chinese Kempo Kai Federation. Then, on December 10, 2011, at a club house in American Canyon, Sifu Chun, Jr. surprised Professor Peladeau, promoting him to the status of 'Professor' in GSJK/CKK. The GSJK/CKK family will dearly miss Professor Peladeau. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, and the entire GSJK/CKK family. Services will be held on Saturday June 1st at 11am. Location of Services Church of Christ, 1109 Lassen St. Vallejo,Ca.
Tribute to Professor Peladeau by Sifu Chun Jr
My Little Buddy
Wilfrid Peladeau with the love of his life, Lee, whom became a household name in the Chun’s Ohana home in Vallejo, California in the year of 1962-63. Chun, Sr. and Willie became friends when both worked together at Louie’s Shell Gas Station in Vallejo. They became close and no sooner Willie became Chun Senior’s best friend and student and his little buddy and “tough bugga” as Chun, Sr. would say. He had to show his buddy the art of Professor William Chow’s Go Shin Jitsu/Chinese Kempo of the hard and soft styles which Willy loved.
Chun, Sr. taught the art at the Vallejo Community Center on Amador and Georgia St. along with his first student, Wilfrid Peladeau, who later became Chun, Sr.’s first promoted to black belt.
In 1964 they went to Richmond, California to check out a building that was up for rent. Funny side to this is when they saw the inside for the first time, it was a wooden floor in bad condition, the windows were shattered or broken out and a lot of pigeon waste all over the place. After being silent for a few seconds, then only Willy can say something that made Chun, Sr. laugh and laugh. Chun Sr replied, there’s a lot of work to do and Willy jumped in and said, “Yeah and a whole lot of pigeon crap to clean! Laughter!
So we moved in to our first dojo, different from the garage or backyard, or the Vallejo Community Center. The Vallejo Community Center was OK, but too many rules. In 1965, Chun, Sr. decided to move back the dojo back to Vallejo on Georgia St, a few blocks from where it started at the Vallejo Community Center.
Willy was Chun, Sr’s Little Buddy and there was no one who dare to disrespect Willy. Their friendship had built to a Ohana type of respect and love. A Student, Friend, and his Little Buddy.
We will miss you, Willy, and I, Chun, Jr. will remember and cherish your advice on things related to the arts after your friend and my Father have passed on.
Sincerely
Bill Chun, Jr
